Haiti relief resources

Here are several options for contributing to the relief effort in Haiti in the name of Jesus. These are well known, respected organizations with long ties to mission and relief work around the globe. True religion, James tells us is looking after widows and orphans. Paul collected money for the Jews starving to death in Jerusalem. Events like these give Christians a opportunity to put their money where their mouth is, demonstrating before an unbelieving world that Jesus is the only way.

Desiring God also lists 8 others that are also helping in the relief effort. You can view their list here.

The Prosperity (another) Gospel

I affirm what Jared Wilson said today "People will go to hell over this."

Not only those who believe it and becoming teachers, teach others to believe it, but those who gifted us with this other gospel. See John Piper's thoughts on the subject.

Observing the Lord's Day

Dan Walker writes a very interesting article about why the observance of the Lord’s day is an important aspect to his life and career:

“‘You will not get anywhere with an attitude like that!’ Those are the words that were ringing in my ears as I left the offices of a major radio station in London back in 2000. The interviewers were under the impression that what I had written in my CV about not working on a Sunday was a joke. When I explained that I was a Christian, and why I felt the way I did, one of them just sat there with his mouth wide open for about ten seconds. It was a great job and they fully expected me to give up everything to work for them.”

I think it is interesting that for many who claim Christ in America, more time is spent at the restaurant table and shopping than relaxing and enjoying the restful day that God has blessed us with. What message are we sending to the world with our non-stop busy Sundays? Certainly food for thought. Read the rest here. (Via Challies.com)
